What is your secret to such a strong online reputation?
As a small business owner, I don’t undervalue the importance of a strong online presence. My online reputation can be attributed to a wide range of things. I have strong professional affiliations, not the least of which is the American Psychological Association Media Referral Services. Psychologytoday.com is also a notable professional affiliation of mine. A great website has also contributed substantially to my positive online reputation. Beyond that, Twitter and Google have proven particularly effective for my business’ needs. Life is full of challenges. I remain amazed at the indelible courage and determination of those who continue to persevere against all odds, and I am proud to play a part in their lives. Having an online presence is essential in allowing me the privilege to continue to help others.
What makes you different? In other words, if you had one minute to sell somebody on why they should choose you, what would you say?
Validation. Everyone has value. As human beings, we have the need to belong and to be accepted. Validating another person’s life experiences, without judgment, communicates acceptance. As a licensed clinical psychologist, my initial goal is to validate and accept the life experiences of the people I am privileged to work with. I believe that it is a privilege to influence the lives of others. I strive to provide my patients with the best care possible. In doing so, I am very cognizant and respectful of the fact that the right match when choosing a therapist is critical, and that it is important to acknowledge that not every therapist-patient relationship is a good fit. In these cases, I take the time to research and provide the individual with a referral list of qualified professionals that may better accommodate their needs.
Why do you do what you do? In other words, what is your mission and/or how do you attempt to make the world a better place?
The greatest reward that I have received as a clinical psychologist has been the invaluable honor and privilege of sharing in the lives of others who have challenged and encouraged me to “assume nothing and question everything” in an effort to make a difference. This responsibility, however, is of great magnitude. But, I could not see myself in any other profession. It is a privilege to influence the lives of others. Life is a learning curve. Some days are harder than others, and some days are really, really hard to get through. Sometimes we need guidance and a sense of direction to help get us back on track. Erie Colorado Counseling is a great place to start.
What advice do you have for other businesses trying to build a strong online reputation and grow their business?
Many of our purchasing decisions are influenced by conscious and/or unconscious emotional factors. In short, we buy what makes us feel good! Keep in mind the psychology behind your online presence. For example, the role of emotions in business and marketing is key to the success and longevity of any business. Does your business marketing strategy communicate on an emotional level with the public? Make an earnest effort to understand what the public wants. Ask yourself “Why should the public choose your business over other similar businesses?”
